Terms of Service
Last updated: October 10, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
These terms are an agreement between you and The Potter’s Assistant Technologies LLC. By creating an account or using The Potter's Assistant, you agree to them. They take effect on the date shown above, or on the day you create your account, whichever is later. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. Description of Service
The Potter's Assistant helps you run a pottery studio. Depending on your plan, it includes glaze notes and recipes, a glaze room, kiln run tracking, materials and finished-piece inventory, works in progress, sketches and designs, a calendar and workflow, cost and pricing tools, social post planning, data export, AI features (Pottery Fix AI and Studio Scan), and an optional Skutt KilnLink kiln connection.
Features vary by plan, and some are limited by monthly caps. We may add, change, or remove features as the app develops.
3. Account Registration
- Give us accurate information and keep it current.
- You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to enter a contract where you live.
- One account per person. Accounts are for you, not to be shared or resold.
- You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account. Tell us at admin@thepottersassistant.com if you think someone else has access.
4. Subscriptions, Billing, and Cancellation
Plans. Open Studio is free and stays free, with usage caps. The paid plans are Potter ($5.99/month or $59.99/year), Potter Plus ($9.99/month or $99.99/year), and Potter Pro ($14.99/month or $149.99/year). Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you live.
There is no free trial. Paid plans start billing when you subscribe.
Who bills you. If you subscribe in the iOS app, Apple bills you through your App Store account. If you subscribe on the web, Stripe processes the payment for us. Either way, subscriptions renew automatically for the same interval until you cancel.
Cancelling an App Store subscription. We cannot cancel it for you — Apple controls it. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, then select The Potter's Assistant and cancel. Do this at least 24 hours before the renewal date, as Apple requires. Deleting your Potter's Assistant account does not cancel App Store billing.
Cancelling a web subscription. Use the billing section in Settings, which opens the Stripe billing portal. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Refunds. For App Store purchases, refunds are handled by Apple under its own policy — request one through Apple, not us. For web subscriptions, email admin@thepottersassistant.com and we will look at it.
Changing plans. Upgrades take effect when the payment goes through. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period, and plan caps apply from then on, so export anything you need first.
5. User Content
Your content is yours. Your glaze notes, recipes, photos, sketches, designs, and studio records belong to you, and nothing here transfers ownership to us.
To run the app, you give us permission to store, copy, and display your content — for example, to show your photos back to you, to sync between your devices, to build your exports, and to back it up. That permission is limited to operating the service for you, and it ends when you delete the content or your account. If you use an AI feature, that permission covers sending what you submit to our AI provider so it can answer. We do not publish your content, share it with other users, or use it in marketing.
Do not upload content that is illegal, that infringes someone else's rights, or that you do not have the right to use.
6. Acceptable Use
Do not:
- Try to read, change, or delete another user's data.
- Share your account, or let other people use one login as a way around plan limits.
- Work around usage caps, plan restrictions, or the AI feature allowances.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or copy the app, except where the law says you may.
- Scrape the app, hammer our APIs, or run automated tools against the service without our written permission.
- Upload malware, or try to break, overload, or probe our infrastructure.
- Resell or rebrand the service as your own.
7. Third-Party Services
Some features depend on other companies: Supabase, Vercel, Stripe, Apple, Google, Anthropic, Expo, and Skutt KilnLink. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to what they do, and we do not control them. If one of them has an outage or changes how it works, the related feature may stop working for a while. Our Privacy Policy explains what each one receives.
8. Intellectual Property
We own the app itself — the software, design, name, and branding. You may use it under these terms, and that is the only licence we grant. You own your content, as described above.
9. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of data loss. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose — the export tools are there for that.
The AI features and kiln telemetry are informational, not safety equipment. AI responses can be wrong or incomplete, and kiln data can be delayed, missing, or inaccurate. Do not rely on either one to decide whether a firing is safe, whether a kiln is off, or how to handle materials. Use a thermocouple reading, witness cones, your own judgment, and your manufacturer's instructions. You remain responsible for your kiln, your studio, your materials, and your safety.
Cost and pricing calculations are tools, not financial or tax advice. Check the numbers before you rely on them.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost sales, lost data, or damaged work.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is capped at the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50. Some places do not allow these limits, and nothing here removes a right you have that cannot be waived.
11. Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. See the Privacy Policy for what deletion removes, and remember that an App Store subscription must be cancelled separately through Apple.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used to harm other users or the service, or is required to be closed by law. Except for serious or repeated abuse, we will give you notice and a chance to fix the problem first, and a reasonable opportunity to export your data.
12. Changes to These Terms
If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top. For material changes we will give you notice in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms. If you do not, stop using the app and cancel your subscription.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Arizona, and we both agree to that venue. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not take away protections your local law gives you.
